Break up with your job. 🥳
Starting a side gig and growing it to a 6-figure freelance gig can seem near impossible at first … especially on your own. Here are some tips that helped shorten that journey for me.
Pick a good gig.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but let’s talk through this.
You’re creative. You feel like you have an “eye for design”. You may gravitate towards photography, videography or graphic design first. Maybe you may have some experience in one of these creative arts already and so it seems like the best option.
I want you to consider web design.
“Hmm … web design you say?” 🤨
Let’s pro-con this.
- I get to be creative
- Every business needs a website
- I can build Monthly Recurring Revenue for myself by offering Hosting & Maintenance Services (Hint: This is the key.)
- I could still sell photography, videography, and graphic design to my website clients if I want to
- I’m a creative, I don’t know how to code. (Another hint: You don’t need to.)
Kelly & I both start each month with over $5k+ in Recurring Revenue. That means if no projects could come in, we’ll still make at least $5k that month. Every month, that number grows. That is one HUGE advantage web design freelancers have. 💵
Find your why.
This is harder than it sounds. I will require some time thinking and soul searching.
Your “why” needs to be a deep, emotional reason for why you are going to embark on this journey. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s not impossible either.
For me, my “why” is FREEDOM. 🏖
I remember the day I had enough…
What about you? What is your “why”?
Find a mentor … or 2 🔥
Probably the most important step in my opinion.
Don’t know where to start? Your mentor will know.
Don’t know what parts of your industry you need to know? Your mentor will know.
Don’t know where to find clients? Your mentor will know.
Don’t know how to price projects? Your mentor will know.
Having a solid mentor could shave YEARS off the transition time from a side gig to 6 figs.
Kelly & I know this because it took us years, and it didn’t need to. We built our businesses by doing almost everything wrong and somehow managed to take our side gigs to 6 figs.
We learned many lessons along the way … there are so many things we wish we knew when we started.
We want to share those valuable lessons with you.
